Ajay Coletta, bandleader for Planet Groove, explains their decision to record with Studio Live recording, "Our first experience with Bob Sloane, Phil Greene and Studio Live was with our LIVE disc recorded in 2002. I heard that there was a company doing great Live albums for bands in the RI & Mass areas, so I met with Bob Sloane, listened to his examples and was impressed enough to immediately book a session to record a full album of live tracks. The quality of the LIVE recording far exceeded my expectations, I was amazed at how well SLR captured the essence of our performance. When we started to sell the Live disc, our fans could not believe that this was recorded Live and in one evening. Everyone was thrilled with the results."
Recording "Rojo Vivo"
Ajay comments on their decision to record a studio session album with SLR,
"With the wonderful success of our LIVE disc, it just made sense to speak to Bob Sloane about doing a studio recording of our new material. The difference this time was a fast approaching deadline and a very limited budget. Bob sat down with me and discussed what we wanted to accomplish, our budget and how we could get the most for our money. As we (the band) were in the process of considering studios to record our new disc, essential elements as price, recording atmosphere, sonic quality, and exposure opportunities were significant considerations. After evaluating several studios, we decided to record with SLR as they met all our criteria. First was Price, very competitive. Next, the working atmosphere, always comfortable, no pressure to hurry up and finish the tracks, Bob always considered quality of performance over quantity of time. Regarding the "sonic quality" of his recording, we were already convinced he would do a great job since our 2002 Live album came out brilliantly. And the final element that locked in our decision was Bob's vast connections with record labels and agents, serious exposure opportunities. Bob introduced us to his contacts with Universal Music, Ryko Disc, and Interscope Records. Studio Live Recording offers a complete package of services that no other studio can come close to offering musicians. Oh, and one last thought, because we needed to complete our newest recording in such a short time period (8 days), the need for a professional engineer who could get great sounds was essential, and once again, Bob Sloane rose to the occasion. All basic tracks, overdubs and mixing was complete in a record 8 days, we then took it to Jeff Lipton of Peerless Mastering (another brilliant Bob Sloane suggestion) and the disc was complete and ready for duplication.
Distribution of "Rojo Vivo" began immediately after duplication and the compliments came rolling in - Bob Gulla of the Providence Phoenix wrote "Planet Groove's new disc is a sonic masterpiece of musical composition and production, this album can stand up to any major act, and it was recorded in 8 days, imagine what they can do with 8 weeks!"
